Human RCT (post hoc)

Semaglutide slowed blood-based aging clocks in a post hoc trial analysis

Source: Nature Communications

What the study found

Researchers re-analyzed blood DNA methylation from a 32-week placebo-controlled trial of semaglutide in 84 adults with HIV-associated fat redistribution. Several aging clocks moved in the younger direction with semaglutide, including PhenoAge and a roughly 9% slower DunedinPACE pace of aging.

Why it matters for healthspan

This is some of the first randomized-trial evidence linking a GLP-1 drug to measures of biological aging. The authors flag the limits: aging clocks were not a planned outcome, the cohort was small and HIV-specific, follow-up was short, and clock changes are not the same as proven health gains.
